Master of Athletic Training (MATrg) in Athletic Training

The MATrg is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). It will prepare a student to take the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) exam and earn the 'ATC' credential. Didactic courses and clinical experience courses focus on prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries resulting from physical activity. Students who are interested in this two year (36 credits) program must have a conferred baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.

Mission

The mission of the Master of Athletic Training in Athletic Training at North Dakota State University is to prepare students to successfully pass the BOC, Inc exam through exceptional didactic and clinical education experiences. In addition, perfecting skills and techniques required of an entry-level athletic trainer, professional characteristics and critical thinking skills will be enhanced to aid the student in becoming a productive and competent member of the athletic training profession.

Objectives

  1. To provide students with quality didactic instruction and a variety of clinical experiences to become a competent and reliable professional certified athletic trainer.
  2. To prepare the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal health care to the physically active in an allied health setting.
  3. To expose students to latest technology and research in the athletic training field to enhance their practitioner skills.
  4. To nurture the development of the student's communication skills and professionalism as related to providing optimal care in the athletic training setting.
  5. To prepare the student with the necessary skills to pass the BOC exam and attain graduate school pursuits and/or obtain job placement upon graduation.
