NDSU

Welcome

Dear Prospective Student,

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences (HNES).   Making a decision on where to attend college is a difficult one.  I am sure you will not be disappointed if you chose to attend the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences at North Dakota State University.  We currently offer undergraduate majors in Exercise Sciences,  Dietetics, Sports and Recreation Studies, Health Education and Physical Education with minors in physical education, health education, coaching, nutrition and food service management. Our most recent employment report indicates an approximately 100% placement rate for our graduates.

Our laboratories are equipped with state of the art equipment and we are using cutting edge technology.  A number of our faculty are engaged at the national level and provide name recognition to the program.  Students in all of our programs take part in a number of field and practicum experiences and all seniors have an off-campus capstone experience in a setting of their choice prior to graduation.

Physical education graduates typically get teaching and coaching jobs in elementary, middle and high schools, but they are also certified for jobs at YMCA’s, health spas, community or recreation centers and private sport clubs.  Physical education majors at NDSU are taught how to use and apply a variety different pieces of technology including heart rate monitors, motion sensors, pedometers, and TriFIT, a computer based health management system.

For additional information about the physical education major please feel free to contact me.  Thank you.

Sincerely,
